You may need a center where you can drop off your children early in the morning and pick them in the evening, or you may just need the day care services for a few hours per day. It may even be that you only need the day care center occasionally when you have something you need to attend to. Whatever your needs are, the day care center you choose should provide you with quality care for your children.

Early Education

It has been established that early childhood education should have a loving and nurturing component, together with learning experiences which enhance your child's physical, cognitive and social-emotional development. Quality early education for your child will be determined by the caregivers, the quality of the program offered...

Childhood obesity refers to children and adolescents from 6 to 17 years of age who are extremely overweight based on standard growth charts. Currently, statistics show that twelve percent of American parents consider their child obese. This is a rather startling fact that should be given more interest and notice by the public. Parents should be a lot more concerned about their child’s weight and their eating habits. Early detection and intervention would greatly help on battling with obesity.

Obesity among children and adolescents is a very serious issue that has a lot of medical and social effects that could probably persist into adulthood. Instigating prevention programs and an improved perception of treatments available for...

For those of us who have kids or know children, it certainly seems like toys and the idea of play has changed. Children's entertainment has taken on a much more passive role, when in our day play was all about imagination and creativity. For example, we'd play dress up or various role playing games, and we'd use the toys we did have in completely creative, loosely structured fun. Nowadays it seems that traditional play where you create a story has been left behind, what with video games and other passive entertainments.

Of course, I don't mean to sound like an old fogey by belittling a new generation of toys, but it's hard to disagree with the importance of active play for a child's development. In fact, classic toys and games are still...

Art classes are a great way of stimulating your creativity and even discovering a hidden talent for painting, drawing or animation. In today's society art is stereotyped as something only for the wealthy elite or in schools it becomes the course most associated with budget cuts. Despite these negative associations with art, a lot of positivity comes through learning how to create your own art. You will be surprised to know that art has the ability to boost your creativity, increase your self-esteem and improve mental capacity. In this article Helene Goldnadel outlines these benefits and demonstrates how art can help your child develop to his or her full potential through taking art classes.

Taking art lessons increases your creativity....

Autism disorder, also called autistic disorder or simply autism, is not a disease but rather a developmental disability affecting the brain that usually always manifests itself by the age of three.

Autism is considered to be a pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) and it is estimated that some form of the condition affects as many as six to eight of every 1,000 children today. There is no one set of symptoms or behaviors typical of all people with autism as the condition can cause a vast spectrum of symptoms ranging from the mild to the severe.

Autism is four times more likely to affect males than females, for reasons still unknown, and the condition knows no social, racial, or ethnic boundaries.

Some different types of autism include...

Saying goodbye can be a hard thing for anyone to do, especially a small child. Infants learn at a young age to depend on their caregiver to provide them with everything they need, so what happens when that caregiver leaves? Here Helene Goldnadel is going to talk about child separation anxiety, the causes, and explain how to help a child who is having trouble with separation.

Child separation anxiety is defined as distress or agitation resulting from separation or fear of separation from a parent or caregiver to whom a child is attached to. It can start around 7 months of age, peaks at around 18 months, and can continue until around the age of 3. Many parents are familiar with the screaming toddler who will not let them walk out the door,...

Do not be over protective

There is always a nexus between parenting to protect the child and parenting to allow experiences that will give the child an opportunity to meet risk or challenge successfully. We hate to think our children may be hurt or feel unhappy. Such feelings are usually transient and not a life time blow.

Support the development of friendships, including the disagreements

Friendships are not always easy. Disagreements are par for the course. One certainly does not need to protect a child from normal disagreement between siblings or friends. Maintaining everyday relationships or friendships, rest on your child's ability to bond flexibly with others. Positive relationships are built on being able to communicate positively,...

Parental intervention and application of moral principles can do much to mitigate these potential effects. One can then consider some of the possible effects a poorly brought up child can face. Research clearly shows that a child who lacks adequate parental instruction stands the risk of recalcitrance. A dependable study reveals that out of ninety-four thousand cases of child delinquent behavior, about eighty percent stems from children in a household with poor parental counseling.

Relatively, the escalating risk of childhood sexual abuse in our society today results primarily from ineffective parental training and supervision. Generally, this psychological development drifts through...

Researching normative or normal stages of child development can be a daunting task for even the most seasoned child care veteran or parent. It is not uncommon to find child development literature infused with phrases like "normal behavior", "delayed functioning", "critical periods" or "patterns of attachment" - phrases that leave some parents feeling guilty, confused and concerned about their child's developmental progression.

Although these terms can be useful indicators of whether or not a child is developing to his or her potential, it is all too easy to get caught up in precise time-lines. As a result, we forget that these terms and their corresponding milestones are merely designed as guidelines- helpful hints that we as parents can...
